Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) today is a worldwide phenomenon. Rising out of obscurity in the early part of the 20th century it has become one of the most widely practiced martial arts in the world. BJJ is recognized by its groundwork. Similar to wrestling and Judo, with its objective to control the opponent on the ground and ultimately submit him. Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is driven by the original purpose of Jiu Jitsu; namely in self preservation and complete understanding on how to effectively defend yourself when on the ground for a smaller, weaker person and for the main purpose of personal safety. Participating in competition (commonplace for most BJJ academies) is OPTIONAL. If you want to compete, we will help you train for them, if you don’t want to compete, you’re just as welcome to train for the fun of learning a new skill. Our Approach While we recognize BJJ’s competitive path – our main focus is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for self-defense and the health aspect of the art. Rodney King, Monkey Jits Founder and a 4th Degree BJJ Black Belt under world renowned BJJ Master Rigan Machado, has developed a BJJ based program, entitled Monkey Jits, that focuses on developing somatic health, wellness and fitness. You will not find people in our program trying to show everyone how tough or good they think they are or getting off by dominating or beating people on the mat. Monkey Jits training is performance based, we roll and train for self-defense. More importantly though our Monkey Jits sessions are about playfulness, exuberance and first and foremost about having a great time while learning something positive about yourself and your body. Monkey Jits is a fantastic whole body workout. You will learn how to defend yourself, build inner and outer strength, and you will learn how to manage your emotions and stress better. Here are only a few Monkey Jits’ many somatic health, wellness and fitness benefits: Rediscover your body’s natural intelligence Get in shape, fit and strong and manage your weight Develop focus, confidence, persistence, creativity & passion with an embodied process Have fun and learn something really deep about yourself Reintegrate your body, mind and spirit Learn to manage your stress more effectively through mindful movement practices

Weaponize-Your-Body Self Preservation/Threat Management The Weaponize-Your-Body program offers a proven approach to teaching self-protection coaching. We equip our clients with a deep understanding of threat physiology and psychology as well as the physical skills needed to survive. It’s a practical, no-nonsense, easily learned primer to developing empty hand self-preservation skills. This course focuses not only on the physical techniques, but developing situational awareness, managing threat physiology and Verbal jiu-jitsu de-escalation techniques. Our goal in the Weaponize-Your-Body program is to teach participants how to engage, mold, and apply their primal survival system to effectively neutralize an interpersonal violent threat. To this end, all of our courses are grounded in four key components. *THREAT PHYSIOLOGY If someone is going to survive an interpersonal violent encounter, it is crucial that they understand what will happen to their body when faced with a threat. In this section of training we focus on the physiological changes that take place in an interpersonal violent experience, with tactics to help participants deal with those automatic changes. *SITUATIONAL AWARENESS People are typically not aware of their surroundings. There can be numerous reasons for this, from being glued to one’s smartphone in the civilian word, to the fog of the battlefield. In this section of training, we teach participants how to ensure that they are situationally aware, understand what that means, and how to both develop and deploy it as a skill. *VERBAL JIU-JITSU Sometimes going hands on with a potential threat isn’t desirable. Depending on the situation, talking a potential human threat down, is a victory in of its self. In this section of training, we introduce participants to our COATS method of deescalation, and other strategies and tactics. *PRIMAL DEFENSE Focusing on high percentage, easily learned primal defense and offensive tactics, participants learn how to keep themselves physically safe. We offer a varied spectrum of physical force solutions – from a baseline approach designed to be deployed with participants who have no previous backgrounds in offensive/defensive physical tactics – to more advanced methods.
